Is it safe to take xanax and amitriptyline at the same time?

is it safe to take xanax and amitriptyline at the same time? I was prescribed amitriptyline for migraines and xanax for anxiety/insomnia. It says I am supposed to take both drugs before bed. Taking them together is safe right? Will there be any bad side effects if both drugs interact?

As a mental health professional with over two decades experience, now retired, I’d have to ask you if the same doctor prescribed both medications. If so, then he or she knows you well enough to know whether it’s “safe” in your context or not. If the same doctor did NOT prescribe both of them, or if the same doctor did prescribe them but at separate visits and times, you need to clarify this with whichever doctor you are now using. Xanax is an addictive medication, whereas Amitryptiline is not. But that’s not as important as to answer the first questions I put before you, and follow up on my recommendations for getting a reliable and “safe” answer. God Bless you.
